Truck Body Designs That Reduce Loading Time for Distribution Fleets
October 22, 2026
ANJ Transport Solutions builds truck body designs across Australia that support safe loading access, freight restraint and distribution fleet needs.
Truck body designs shape how quickly and safely a fleet can load, restrain and unload freight. The right configuration depends on the freight, the delivery order and the facilities at each stop.
How Do Truck Body Designs Affect Loading Time?
Curtain-sided bodies can let forklifts reach pallets from either side where site access permits, so not every load has to pass through the rear opening. Enclosed van bodies protect freight from the weather and give controlled rear access. Loading in route order, with the first deliveries nearest the doors, helps drivers reach each consignment without moving unrelated freight.
We build freezer bodies, curtain siders, trays, Colour Bond vans, Eco panel vans and FRP van bodies. Our body types page lets you compare truck body designs against your own freight profile.
Body Features That Support Multi-Stop Deliveries
A practical layout reduces repeated handling at the depot and at each delivery. Choose features around your freight units, loading equipment and stop sequence, not nominal pallet capacity alone.
- Side access: Curtain sides allow loading from the side of the body where the site has room for a forklift.
- Rear access: Van bodies keep freight enclosed and suit loading through the rear doors.
- Restraint points: Anchorages and restraint equipment should suit the freight arrangement and the way the load is secured. The NHVR’s loading guide for side curtains explains how curtains fit into load restraint.
- Tailgate access: Where a delivery site has no raised dock, a suitably rated tailgate lifter may help with pallet jack or trolley deliveries, subject to safe operation and maintenance.
- Load separation: Dividers or shoring equipment can help keep mixed freight apart, where the body is designed to take them.
- Internal visibility: Good lighting inside an enclosed body helps workers check labels, pallet positions and restraints.
Checks for Distribution Fleets Before Selecting a Body
A body must suit the transport task, not just the number of pallets on a typical run. Before you approve any truck body designs, review the chassis, the freight profile and the conditions at your regular loading and delivery sites.
- Freight requirements: Confirm pallet dimensions, load weights, freight height, temperature needs and whether items need side or rear access.
- Payload and axle limits: Include the body, tailgate, refrigeration system and other equipment when calculating payload and axle distribution.
- Site compatibility: Check dock heights, forklift clearances, yard space and unloading equipment at each destination.
- Restraint and safety: Make sure the body, anchorages and restraint method suit the freight and applicable Australian loading requirements.
- Certification: Confirm body mounting, overall dimensions, rear overhang, lighting and the certification needed for the chassis and operating jurisdiction.
